Captain’s License Part 11
As mentioned in previous post, today we are discussing OVERTAKING another vessel.
First, if a sailing vessel is operating OUTSIDE a NARROW channel encounters another sailing vessel that is RESTRICTED to operating within a narrow channel, this vessel can’t impede the restricted vessel’s progress. Makes TOTAL SENSE!
Second, if one sailing vessel is OVERTAKING another, then the OVERTAKING vessel has to keep out of the WAY of the one being overtaken, no matter what tack it is on or which vessel is to WINDWARD.
Third, if you encounter a sailing vessel FISHING that can’t maneuver out of your way, then you are required to keep clear of that vessel regardless of what tack it is on.
More on OVERTAKING in next post!
