St. Johns River Part 1
As you will note it is a while since I posted. If you look at the previous series of posts, you will note I was planning a Sea Gypsy Live-Aboards armada on the Caribbean.
As you will note that was Pre-Covid and things for me have changed.
I had planned to base in St. Croix US Virgin Islands. Now with all the sales taking place according to my real estate agent friend, Kim, St. Croix is going to possibly be as crowded as its sister island St. Thomas. Not for me!
So now you will be following my journey back to living, where I grew up – Jacksonville, Florida.
I actually grew up only about a mile from the St. Johns River. I attended the Bolles School on the St. Johns. When I came to Bolles it was a military school. I joined the Navy unit and learned about sailing.
Then my next sailing experience was with a public relations client in Orange Park, just south of Jacksonville. He owned a windsurfing company. I thought it would be cool to do a race on the St. Johns between a windsurfer and a Sunfish sailboat! He loved the idea too!
As windsurfing was new to the area I correctly guessed the media would be interested. Even my former employer Post Newsweek TV Group decided to cover it especially when they found out I would be the one on the windsurfer!
More in next post about the race!
