When you are avoiding a COLLISION make sure use a succession of SMALL course changes!
You should always consider slackening your vessel’s speed, coming to a FULL STOP and or reversing your engines in order to properly access a situation.
If your vessel is approaching a NARROW channel, you need to stay as STARBOARD (RIGHT) in that channel as possible.
The majority of sailing and motorboats will be 20 METERS (65 FEET) or less and therefore the International Rules of the Road REQUIRE you to NOT impede the safe passage of vessels that can navigate only inside that channel.
