Today we discuss what happens when a vessel desires to OVERTAKE another vessel in a narrow CHANNEL or FAIRWAY and are in sight of each other.

2 PROLONGED blasts followed by 1 SHORT blast means that my vessel is going to overtake the other one on its STARBOARD side.

2 PROLONGED blasts followed by 2 SHORT blasts means that my vessel is going to overtake the other one on its PORT side.

The overtaken vessel will see signal its agreement:

1 PROLONGED, 1 SHORT, 1 PROLONGED and 1 SHORT blast in the above order.
