Captain’s License Part 58
Continuing our discussion of SOUND SIGNALS today we look at be vessels at ANCHOR. Vessels under 100 meters must at intervals of not more than 1 minute rapidly ring a BELL for about 5 seconds. Vessels 100 meters or more shall sound the BELL in the FOREPART of the vessel and immediately after ringing the BELL sound the GONG rapidly for 5 seconds in the AFTER PART of the vessel. Another precaution is to sound 3 blasts in succession in the following manner: 1 SHORT, 1 PROLONGED and 1 SHORT. This is especially if while at anchor there might be a chance of COLLISION!
